French League Quarterfinals, Game 3: June 2, 2009

Adecco Asvel and Sluc Nancy joined already qualified Le Mans and Orleans in the French League semifinals by surviving respective do-or-die games at home on Tuesday to win their best-of-three quarterfinal series. Nancy made it to the semifinals by beating Chorale Roanne 95-82 at home in Game 3. Lamayn Wilson led the winners with 24 points. John Cox added 17, Jeff Greer had 13, Akin Akingbala and Micheal Morandais each got 12 while Ricardo Greer dished 12 assists for Nancy. Aaron Harper led Roanne with 24 points in defeat. Chris Monroe added 20 while Uche Nsonwu had 14 for the guests. Nancy broke the game open midway through the fourth quarter to reach the next round. Meanwhile, Asvel simply overwhelmed Strasbourg 88-59 to reach the next round. Ali Traore led the winners with 18 points. Nebojsa Bogavac and Eric Campbell each added 15, Amara Sy had 12, Ben Dewar got 11 while Chevon Troutman contributed 10 for Asvel. Brion Rush had 14 points for Strasbourg while David Simon added 12. Asvel already led 68-46 after three quarters and never looked back.
In Nancy, Roanne stayed in the game early, as a three-pointer by Harper brought the guests within 10-9. Ricardo Greer and Wilson combined for all points in a 9-0 run that gave Nancy a 18-9 lead. Roanne fired back, as a triple by Monroe tied it at 20-20. Akingbala shined with back-to-back dunks while Morandais added its own slam for a 26-20 Nancy lead after 10 minutes. Cox struck twice from downtown while Cyril Julian added a three-point play to make it a double-digit game, 43-32, at halftime. Harper managed to bring Roanne within 59-55 late in the third quarter. It all came down to the final 2 minutes, in which Wilson buried a jumper, nailed a triple and dunked it to seal the outcome, 89-75. In Lyon, Sy, Dewar and Campbell buried respective three-pointers to give Asvel an 11-4 lead. An 8-0 run that Traore capped with a layup broke the game open, 22-7. Asvel kept a safe 47-35 margin at halftime and used an outstanding Traore to break the game open, 68-46, after 30 minutes. Strasbourg never recovered, allowing Asvel to seal its ticket to the semifinals long before the final buzzer.
