French League Semifinals, Game 2: June 9-10, 2009

 The French League semifinals are headed for do-or-die third game thrillers on Saturday after both Asvel Basket and Le Mans tied up their best-of-three series with victories Game 2. Both did it with defense, but Asvel was particularly impressive in breaking open a close game in the final quarter and cruise to a 53-69 road victory over Nancy. Their series is now tied 1-1. Asvel was clinging to leads of 18-20 after one quarter, 28-32 at the half and 48-52 after three quarters. Asvel's defense ruled the final 10 minutes, however, holding Nancy to just 5 points on its own floor while cruising to a 53-69 win. Ali Traore ws the big gun for Asvel with 16 points. Laurent Foirest chipped in 11 points while Amara Sy had 9 and 7 rebounds. Ricardo Greer scored 15 points for Nancy, while Akin Akingbala posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Asvel was helped by doubling Nancy's bench scoring, 14 to 28. Meanwhile, bouncing back from a tough one-point loss in their opener, Le Mans held down visiting Orleans 71-61 on Tuesday to even the series at 1-1. Le Mans made a big move toward double-digit leads after halftime and kept up the pressure the rest of the way. Dewarick Spencer did it all for the winners, piling up 21 points and 7 rebounds. Joao Paulo Batista follwed with 12 points and Alain Koffi 10 for Le Mans. Orleans got 16 points from Cedrick Banks and 10 each from Anthony Dobbins and Terence Dials. Game 3 in each series will be at Orleans and Asvel, respectively, on Saturday.
