Lithuanian League Finals, Game 4: May 14, 2009

 Lietuvos Rytas moved within one win of the Lithuanian League championship by edging rival Zalgiris Kaunas 100-94 in overtime on Thursday. Chuck Eidson scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds – including 4 free throws in the final 24 seconds to ice the win and give L. Rytas a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 5 is set for Monday at Kaunas. It was a back and forth game with Zalgiris leading early, L. Rytas coming back. Zalgiris led by 9 in the third quarter before L. Rytas came back again. Arturas Jomantas was the hero late with a pair of triple in the last 16 seconds – the second with 1 second remaining in regulation – to force overtime at 81-81. Then Eidson and L. Rytas took charge late to take the win. Jomantas totaled 19 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for L. Rytas and Marijonas Petravicius and Mindaugas Lukauskis added 12 points apiece. Mantas Kalnietis paced Zalgiris with 22 points and 6 assists, Paulius Jankunas had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Jonas Maciulis amassed 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, Arturas Milaknis added 17 points and Dainius Salenga finished with 11.
Jankunas scored the first 6 points of the game as Zalgiris raced out to a 3-11 start, however Eidson led L. Rytas back for a 24-16 lead after 10 minutes. Milaknis drilled 3 threes in the second quarter to help Zalgiris climb back to a 35-36 halftime advantage. The hosts led by 5 with two-and-a-half minutes to play before back-to-back triples by Kalnietis and Maciulis pushed Zalgiris to a 72-75 edge with a minute left. Jomantas came up big for L. Rytas with a three with 16 seconds left in regulation to bring his team within 77-78 and then the game-tying triple with 1 second to go, forcing overtime at 81-81. A red-hot Kalnietis put Zalgiris ahead, but Eidson matched him. Zalgiris then cooled off in the final two minutes while Eidson stayed strong to seal the win for L. Rytas and bring the club a step closer to the title.
