Latvian League, Season 2009-10
|
|
| The Latvian League started a new era with Ventspils winning another title after two years without lifting the trophy. Ventspils had dominated the Latvian League for the entire decade, but the now defunct ASK Riga and Barons/LMT won respective titles in 2007 and 2008 to end that dynasty. Ventspils starts the Latvian League again as the team to beak, seeking more hardware for its outstanding roll of honors. Aaron Pettway, Dairis Bertrans, Ronalds Zakis, Janis Strelnieks and Mareks Jurevicus are set to lead Ventspils in the fight to lift another domestic trophy. VEF Riga, SK Valmiera and Barons are expected to battle against Ventspils for the title. Barons managed to keep star guard Armands Skele and veteran forward Dainius Adomaitis. Its main additions were Laurynas Mikalauskas and Ugis Vilums. VEF, coached by Latvian legend Valdis Valters, signed Alex Renfroe, Arnas Labuckas and Martynas Mazeika to play alongside star center Jurijs Aleksejevs. Meanwhile, Valmiera counts on Sandis Amolins, Blaz Cresnar, Arturas Valeika and Reinis Strupovics for a good season. |
