Last season:
Star big man Pau Gasol missed the start of the season after suffering an injury in the world championships and Memphis slumped to its worst record in seven years.

In recent seasons, Memphis became a legitimate
challenger in the NBA's Western Conference,
posting consecutive seasons of 50, 45 and 49, though
it was swept in the first round of the playoffs
each season. However injuries and aging players
took their toll on the team and last season Memphis
slumped to one of its worst campaigns in recent
history.
· The Grizzlies are now in a rebuilding
mode with young studs like Rudy Gay, Darko
Milicic and rookie playmaker Mike Conley set to
team with Pau Gasol to try and lead Memphis back
to the hunt for the playoffs.
