THE CITY
Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, is a meeting point for Europe and Asia. Originally known as Constantinople, the city served as the capital city of the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Latin Empire and Ottoman Empire. Its various historic and cultural sites include the Hagia Sophia church, the Blue Mosque, Dolmabahce Palace and for shopping, the Grand Bazaar. With a population of over 10 million, there is no shortage of what to do in Istanbul, and that includes a rich sporting culture. Istanbul boasts a pair of Euroleague Basketball teams and two more in the ULEB Cup, cementing its place as one of the best basketball cities in Europe.
