|
Lottomatica Roma overwhelmed Maccabi Elite 114-66 in the second game of the ULEB Summer League's opening day on Thursday in Jesolo, Italy. Lukas Kraus and Marco Killingsworth led the winning team with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Moreover, Kraus had a perfect 7-for-7 shooting performance, while Simone Bagnoli finished as the team leader in scoring helping the team with a double-double 21 points, 13 rebounds. Daniele Cinciarini, who debuted in Euroleague last season, went 4-for-5 from deep range as he posted 15 points in 23 minutes. Luca Garri, another Euroleague debutant with Lottomatica last season, had 10 points. Maccabi Elite had its top scorer in Lance Soderberg, who came from the bench and led the team with 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Point guard Jason Smith hit 13 points after a bad start while Michael Mitchell added 17 and Roland Hendlein 11. Everything was clear from the beginning as Lottomatica scored 10 unanswered points to open the game. The experience and chemistry of the Italian team helped build a 16-point edge, 204, already in the first quarter, based on feeding the ball inside to Killingsworth and letting Kraus hit open threes. With the help of established players Jacopo Giachetti and Daniele Cinciarini, Rome managed to stay up with double-digit edge for 15 minutes. Maccabi tried to make it a balanced game when Soderberg stepped oncourt. His three-pointer and his activity on the court gave Maccabi the spur to come to within 41-32. Rome, however, did the best to finish the first half and devoured the game with a 34-15 partial in the third quarter. The last period only needed to make up some numbers while Lottomatica reached a high lead of 52 points at 111-59.
