USL result, Day 3: Virtus Roma 92-86 Euroleague

Virtus Roma rallied in the final 3 minutes to reach the first ULEB Summer League final in a tie-break situation by defeating the Euroleague free agent team 92-86 on Saturday. Roma, Euroleague and Chinese Basketball Association team all finished their group with 2-1 records and separated by a total of 8 points in the total scores between them. Roma had a plus-4 finish, the CBA even and Euroleague minus-4, putting the team from the Italian capital in the final. Roma had been trailing 77-80 with just over 3 minutes to go, but Luca Garri hit a triple and free throw on the next two possessions to send his team in front for good. Marco Killingsworth led the winners with 19 points. Garri follwed with 16 and 8 rebounds. Matt Sylvester registered a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Simone Bagnoli scored 11 points off the bench. Quinton Day again led the Euroleague free agents with 20 points. Martin Samarco added 15, Mark Zoller 14 and Jure Balazic 10. Roma had been in charge of the game until halftime, leading 28-20 after a quarter and 58-45 at the half as Killingsworth dominated inside. Sanmarco and Day brought Euroleague back quickly after the break, sparking a 0-9 run. With Zollers, Kyle Jeffers and Alexandre Fomine joining the effort, Euroleague bulled ahead by 70-73 after 30 minutes. A low-scoring fourth quarter saw Garri keep Roma close with an early triple and go ahead on his free throw at 76-75. Day emerged with a shot from the arc to put Euroleague back ahead and Zoltan Horvath's free throws made it 77-80 before Garri's next triple sparked a 10-0 run that decided it for Roma. The only question left was the point difference, but Sylvester and Mike Nardi assured Roma enough points down the stretch to reach the final on Sunday at 17:00 CET.
