Another big game by Belton Rivers launched the Chinese Basketball Association to the brink of the ULEB Summer League final after its 73-62 victory on Saturday over Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv. In the end, the CBA team fell 4 points shy in a three-way tie-breaker of advancing to Sunday's final. Rivers was everywhere against Maccabi, pouring in 22 points, pulling 10 rebounds, dishing 4 assists and making 3 steals for the winners. He got scoring help from Claudio Ceccotti, who had 14 points, while Sizhang Wang scored 8 points and pulled 8 rebounds and Triantafillos Tzakopoulos had 8 points and 4 steals. For Maccabi, which lost all three of its games so far, Roland Hendlein had 17 points and 7 boards. Jason Smith added 15 points, Lance Soderberg 11 and Jean-Marc Kraidy pulled 10 rebounds. Maccabi played its best game to date, leading 11-16 after a quarter. The CBA edged ahead by 32-31 at halftime and was still in a battle at 53-50 after 30 minutes. Maccabi went back ahead 53-58 early in the fourth before Rivers and Tzakopoulos sandwiched big three-pointers around a layup by Ville Makalainen in a 10-0 run that turned the scoreboard around. Kraidy kept Maccabi as close as 65-62 before Rivers poured in 4 more points and Ligang Wang finished the game with a four-point play on a triple and free throw following a steal.
