The star: Marc Gasol
Just 23 years old and already a world champion, Akasvayu Girona center Marc Gasol is proving that his desire for success matches his size, 2.15 meters. A rare combination of strength, agility and timing are just some of the tools that make Gasol an emerging star and the centerpiece of the Akasvayu lineup. Gasol was playing for Barcelona's cadet team when his older brother Pau left for the NBA. Marc joined him in America and played high school basketball there for two seasons. He returned to Barcelona in 2003 and, in part due to physical problems, saw limited playing time the next three seasons. Nonetheless, he was selected to the Spanish national team in 2006 in what became a career-defining moment. Gasol not only helped Spain to win the 2006 World Championship, but replaced his injured older brother in the starting lineup for the title game. Last season, Gasol joined Akasvayu and collected a new trophy, the FIBA EuroCup. Gasol’s work ethic sees him constantly improving and developing into a true force to be reckoned with as he leads Akasvayu into the 2008 Final Eight.
