The star: Kaya Peker
Needing an experienced veteran to lead its latest search for ULEB Cup success, Besiktas JK Cola Turka found its man in center Kaya Peker, who returned to his native Turkey to lead his new team to what has already been an unforgettable season. Peker began his career at Karsiyaka as a 16-year-old, and by his third professional season was scoring in double figures and catching the eye of Istanbul giants Efes Pilsen. After arriving as a backup, Peker year by year became a bigger force in the middle for Efes, making himself into a key contributor to pairs of Turkish League titles and President's Cup trophies during his five seasons with the club. Next, Peker joined Tau Ceramica of Spain in the summer of 2006 and immediately helped the club reach another Euroleague Final Four. This season, Peker took his defensive dominance back home to Istanbul, leading Besiktas to one of its best seasons to date. After having staked a claim as the first undefeated team ever in the 10-game ULEB Cup regular season, Peker and Besiktas hope to keep making history at the Final Eight in Turin!
