Player to Watch: Slobodan Ljubotina
Slobodan Ljubotina - PGE TurowSlobodan Ljubotina has quietly emerged as an important contributor this season for the Cinderella story of the ULEB Cup, PGE Turow Zgozelec. Ljubotina, 24, is in his second season with Turow and the ever-improving power forward seems to have found a home. The season has been Ljubotina’s first in European competition, but it hasn’t showed. He produced 16 points and 6 rebounds in his debut and never let up, becoming one of three Turow players to start every game. Ljubotina went on to lead his team in rebounds and has been particularly effective on the offensive glass, where he’s been among the top 10 in the ULEB Cup this season. Of course Ljubotina’s breakthrough year has not come as a surprise to those who have followed him closely, as Ljubotina was tabbed as a bright prospect in Serbian basketball in his teens and played for his country’s junior national teams. He began his career as a 17-year-old with his local side Spartak Subotica, where he played for four seasons before splitting the 2005/06 campaign between Avala Ada Belgrade and Union Olimpija. Last year he found himself at Turow and the rest is history, which is what Ljubotina and his teammates hope to achieve at the Final Eight in Turin.
