2008-09 EUROCUP teams list
|
The first event of the brand-new Eurocup competition will be the the 2008-09 Eurocup Draw, to be held on Tuesday, July 8 at the Postbahnhof in Berlin, Germany. The draw, hosted by Euroleague Basketball and new partner AEG, will begin at 14:30 local time (CET) and will consist of two phases. The first phase will determine pairings among 24 teams playing in two preliminary qualification rounds to decide which 8 of them will participate in the first Eurocup regular season. Teams from the qualification rounds that don't reach the Eurocup regular season will participate in FIBA Europe's EuroChallenge. The final phase of the draw will determine how 24 pre-qualified teams will be placed into eight regular season groups of four teams each. Those groups will eventually be filled by the eight teams that survive the two qualification rounds. The opening game of the Eurocup regular season will be held in the magnificent Siemens Arena, homecourt of the Lietuvos Rytas, a ULEB Cup former champion, on November 24th.
