Tribute to the Champs: Rudy Fernandez
Veteran swingman Rudy Fernandez rolled back the years to play a pivotal part as his team clinched a second EuroLeague title in four years. Fernandez, who is completing his seventh season with the club from the Spanish capital, typified the fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude needed for Madrid to overcome the injury woes that would have devastated many other teams. Fernandez was the consummate bench booster, starting only two of his 31 games, but still averaging nearly 20 minutes on the floor and always displaying endless reserves of energy and commitment. A particular personal highlight was a game-winning triple in the dying seconds at home against fellow Spanish side KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz in January, while his performance in the championship game against Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul typified his valuable all-round contribution: 5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in 19 minutes on the floor.
