The Take

Anadolu Efes started the playoffs in style with a Game 1 win, but both teams know that it will be meaningless if Barcelona can even the series with a road win on Friday in Istanbul. The teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the regular season, but Efes finished stronger to get home-court advantage in the playoffs and for good reason. Efes is now 13-3 at home this season and Barcelona is 6-10 on the road.

Game 1 recap

Efes never trailed in beating Barcelona 75-68 on Wednesday in Game 1. Vasilije Micic starred with 21 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting plus 7 assists to pace the winners. Efes jumped out to a 9-2 start and grabbed a double-digit lead inside of 5 minutes. Barcelona never threw in the towel and closed the gap to 5 in the finals minutes, but Efes held on for the win. Adrien Moerman and Shane Larkin added 12 points apiece for the winners and Bryant Dunston contributed 11 points and 3 blocks. Ante Tomic paced Barcelona with 14 points and Kevin Pangos and Thomas Heurtel scored 12 each.

Marquee matchup

Efes's two point guards, Vasilije Micic and Shane Larkin, have had two of the best games of their respective careers in their last two games against Barcelona. Larkin did so in the regular season and Micic on Wednesday. Barcelona is pretty strong at point guard with All-EuroLeaguer Kevin Pangos and Thomas Heurtel. Watch the point guard matchups to see what adjustments are made. Can the visitors' guards get the upper hand this time?

Keys to victory: Efes

The hosts gave no thought to Game 2 on Wednesday as they played their best players at length to open the series with a victory. However, the price paid is that four starters topped 30 minutes: Adrien Moerman (37:31), Krunoslav Simon (32:32), Vasilije Micic (31:08) and Bryant Dunston (30:05). Even though it's the playoffs and players must give their all, fatigue may be a concern in a close Game 2. Efes will hope that the injured Brock Motum is available Friday and for bigger contributions from Rodrigue Beaubois, Dogus Balbay and Tibor Pleiss. Otherwise, Barcelona's players – none of whom played even close to 30 – may have fresher legs down the stretch.

Keys to victory: Barcelona

So many things went right for Barcelona in Game 1, yet Coach Pesic's men still came up short. The visitors outrebounded Efes 32-38 and only committed 7 turnovers. Barcelona scored 18 second-chance points. The problem was shooting; Barcelona made just 21 of 44 two-pointers (47.7%) and 6 of 23 threes (26.1%). If Barcelona shot its regular season average on the same shots, it would have scored 80 points. A better shooting night is imperative to win Game 2 in Istanbul.

Head Coaches

ATAMAN, ERGIN
Anadolu Efes Istanbul
"The playoff series are going on. We must analyse what we did in the first game and we must play in the same rhythm but must play smarter. For each ball we must fight together with our fans!"

Players

DUNSTON, BRYANT
Anadolu Efes Istanbul
"Game 1 was a good opener for us. However, that game is over. Game 2 is a completely new thing and we have to use what we learned to fix some things. We have to rebound the ball better. Continue to play physical and get them out of what they want to do. We have to continue moving the ball and controlling the tempo of the game. We thank our fans for the support yesterday and we need that same energy in Sinan Erdem on Friday!"
