Montepaschi Siena bolstered its frontcourt by signing big man Benjamin Ortner on Tuesday. Ortner (2.06 meters, 29 years old) steps in for Benjamin Eze, who will be sidelined for the foreseeable future due to a knee injury. Ortner arrives from LTi Giessen 46ers, where he averaged 11 points and 5.8 rebounds in four German League games this season. He has also played for Cantu, Benetton Treviso, Udine and Reggio Emilia in Italy after finishing his four-year college basketball career at Metropolitan State College of Denver (NCAA). Ortner has also been a member of the Austrian national team. He helped Cantu to reach the Italian League and the Italian Cup finals in 2011, losing both times against Montepaschi Siena. Last season Ortner made his Euroleague debut in four games with Cantu before transferring to Benetton midseason.
