Zalgiris Kaunas suffered a blow to its frontcourt with the news that Ksistof Lavrinovic injured his right hand in practice on Wednesday. Lavrinovic, 33, originally suffered the injury with the Lithuanian national team at the EuroBasket over the summer. He played sparingly over the final part of the tournament, in which Lithuania claimed the silver medal.
In the coming days the team's medical staff will determine whether Lavrinovic will need surgery to repair the hand. The initial thought is that a rest period of four-to-six weeks will suffice, which would bring him back to the roster midway through the Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season. Lavrinovic enters his seventh Euroleague season and second with Zalgiris.A two-time All-Euroleague selection, Lavrinovic averaged 8.5 points and 4 rebounds over 24 Euroleague games with Zalgiris last season.
