After six seasons together, Efes Pilsen and coach Oktay Mahmuti have parted ways on Wednesday, club and coach confirmed. Mahmuti, 39, had spent 15 seasons with Efes Pilsen, from when he started as an assistant coach in 1992. He became the head coach in 2001, after the resignation of Ergin Ataman. With Efes, Mahmuti won the Turkish League title in four successive seasons from 2002 to 2005 and also won the 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2007 Turkish Cup titles. In addition, Mahmuti won 86 of 138 matches he coached with Efes Pilsen in European competitions, coming within a single shot of reaching the Euroleague Final Four in 2004. Efes Pilsen General Manager Engin Ozerhun said that both parties mutually agreed to end their relationaship with understanding and appreciation after so many years. "It has always been pleasure for me to be a part of this noble family of basketball at Efes Pilsen," Mahmuti said. "I'm really glad to have been a part of this family for a very long period."
