Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul strengthened its backcourt with the addition of point guard Nolan Smith, who signed a one-year contract in a ceremony in Istanbul on Friday, and will make his Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut next season. Smith (1.88 meters, 25 years old) spent last season helping Cedevita Zagreb claim its first Croatian League and Cup titles, as well as reach the Adriatic League finals with averages of 13.3 points and 3.3 assists in 28 games. Smith made the half-court buzzer-beater that beat host Partizan NIS Belgrade in the Adriatic League semifinals and sent Cedevita ahead to the title game. In the Eurocup, Smith put up 16.3 points and 4.1 assists on average over 16 games and ranked as the competition's ninth-best scorer last season. Before Cedevita, Smith had appeared in 84 NBA games over two seasons with Portland, averaging 3.3 points, 1.2 assists and 9.9 minutes. Before that, Smith spent four years at Duke University, winning the NCAA championship in 2010 as a starter on the team while averaging 20.6 points and 5.1 assists in his final season.
