In getting ready for its Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut this season, Nizhny Novgorod of Russia announced on Thursday the signing of young big man Ilya Popov for the next three seasons. Popov (2.08 meters, 19 years old) arrives from Spartak St. Petersburg. In the VTB United League, Popov had a testimonial presence with Spartak as he only took part in 6 games totalling 4 points. In the last two seasons he has always combined with appearances with the second team of Spartak. Last season he played 9 games with this team averaging 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
