Greek champion Panathinaikos Athens added depth to its backcourt by announcing the signing of veteran combo-guard Janis Blums to a two-month contract on Thursday. Blums (1.90 meters, 32 years old) arrives from Astana of Kazakhstan, where he averaged 10.5 points on 42.2% three-point shooting plus 1.7 assists last season. Blums has two Turkish Airlines Euroleague seasons under his belt, in 2011-12 with Bilbao and in 2012-13 with Lietuvos Rytas. He has career averages of 6 points and 1.2 assists in 26 Euroleague games. He spent a total of four seasons with Bilbao, helping the club reach the 2010 Eurocup Finals. Blums started his career in 2000 with Broceni, and in his native Latvia he later also played for Skonto and Ventspils. During his career he spent time playing in Poland with Anwil Wloclawek and Napoli of Italy.
