A day before opening its new Turkish Airlines Euroleague campaign, the Greek champion Panathinaikos Athens bolstered its frontcourt by signing Julian Wright on a short-term contract. Wright (2.03 meters, 27 years old) last played with Krasnie Krilya Samara in Russia, where he spent the first part of last season. He averaged 15.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals in VTB League, and also posted 16.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks in the Eurochallenge. The big man has previously spent 4 seasons in the NBA, playing a total of 231 games for Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Hornets, averaging 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds. He also played for Austin Toros of the NBDL, and Maccabi Rishon LeZion in Israel. Wright is now set to make his Euroleague debut this season as Panathinaikos opens its regular season campaign by hosting PGE Turow Zgorzelec on Friday.
