Host club FMP was crowned champions
of the inaugural 2008 Euroleague Basketball Nike International Junior Classification Tournament Belgrade in a title-game thriller, sneaking past Lietuvos Rytas 102-99 before 1,500 delighted fans in the Serbian capital. The game could be considered an instant classic as both teams went on run after run against each other, matching and overcoming the punches thrown their way. The Lithuanians fought valiantly for 40 minutes and deserve enormous respect for the part they played. FMP and L. Rytas will be joined by third-place Red Star at the Nike International Junior Tournament at the Final Four in Madrid the first weekend of May. FMP forward Bojan Subotic was named MVP for leading his team to a perfect 4-0 record. He was joined on the all-tournament team by fellow FMP big man Dejan Musli, Montepaschi forwar Nika Metrevelli and the Partizan duo of Nemanja Jaramay and Aleksander Vlahovic. The game brings an end to the superb tournament, which has brought delight to players, coaches, staff, fans and referees alike. No basketball lover was left indifferent.
