Lottomatica Roma and guard Jacopo Giachetti have agreed to a multi-year contract extension that will keep him in the Italian capital through 2011. Giachetti (190, 24), who already had another season left on his existing contract, signed for a further two years. He was an important part of the club's rotation last season before a knee injury ended his season prematurely. Giachetti averaged 4.3 points on 40% three-point shooting, 1.3 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 11 Euroleague games as a part-time starter, but his season came to a sudden end in January when he suffered a tear in the external meniscus in his left knee, also affecting his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Giachetti underwent surgery and is close to completing the rigorous rehabilitation period that will allow him to play this season.
"I am very pleased to be able to play again in this city and for such a prestigious club," Giachetti said in a statement. "I want to thank club president Toti for believing in me despite the serious injury I suffered and having proposed the renewal, which gives me the opportunity to remain in Rome, which for me has now become a second home. My knee is now perfect, my recovery times were fast. I'm still working and getting into shape to be ready for the season so that I can contribute with the aim of winning something soon."
