ALBA Berlin’s playoff hopes suffered a blow when its most-dominant player, big man Jamel McLean, was ruled out for three-to-four weeks. McLean suffered a torn muscle in his left thigh during a German League game on Sunday. Team physician Dr. Ulrich Schleicher diagnosed the injury. McLean, who is in his first season with ALBA, is ranked among the Turkish Airlines Euroleague top 10 this season in performance index rating with an average of 18.4 per game. He also leads his team with 14 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Only Vassilis Spanoulis has drawn more fouls than McLean’s 100 this season. In more bad news for ALBA, point guard Clifford Hammond suffered a high ankle sprain, which will sideline him for a week to 10 days. Hammonds is the only ALBA player to have started all 17 Euroleague games so far this season. He averaged 8.5 points and 3.3 assists per game.
