FC Barcelona ensured one of its top perimeter players will remain with the club for years to come by signing Alex Abrines to a contract extension through the 2018-19 season. Abrines (1.97 meters, 21 years old) averaged 7.6 points on 34.1% three-point shooting over 23 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games for Barcelona this season, which was his third with the team. He originally arrived in the summer of 2012 in a trade from Unicaja Malaga for Fran Vazquez. Abrines’s 29 three-pointers made in the Euroleague were second on the team to only Juan Carlos Navarro. His numbers have jumped to 9.3 points on 47.7% three-point shooting in the Spanish League thus far this season. In his time with Barcelona, Abrines has already won the Spanish League in 2014 and Copa del Rey in 2013. Abrines is also a member of the Spanish national team, with whom he competed at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He led Spain’s Under-18 team to the gold medal at the 2011 European championships.
