Strasbourg made sure to keep one of the most important pieces of its frontline by signing big man Matt Howard to a new two-year contract on Wednesday. Howard (2.03 meters, 26 years old) averaged 10.7 points, led his team with 6.9 rebounds and was second with 0.9 blocks over 15 Eurocup games last season. His rebounding totals were sixth in the Eurocup. Howard also posted 7.7 points and 5 rebounds per game in the French League. The big man boasts some limited Euroleague experience from time spent with Olympiacos Piraeus at the start of the 2011-12 season. Howard finished that season in Germany with EnBW Ludwigsburg. He also played a season for ratiopharm Ulm in Germany and suited up for Chorale Roanne in France. Howard first made a name for himself as a standout player for Butler University, which he led to a pair of NCAA Final Fours, was a three-time Horizon League First Team selection, the 2009 Horizon League Player of the Year and the 2011 Lou Henson Award winner.
