Quarterfinal analysis: Maccabi Electra vs. Partizan

Mar 18, 2010 by Euroleague.net Print
Maccabi Electra
A pair of coaching greats, current and former Aleksander Gomelski Euroleague Coach of the Year winners Dusko Vujosevic and Pini Gershon, lead Partizan Belgrade and Maccabi Electra, respectively, into an exciting Quarterfinal Playoffs showdown for a ticket to Paris and the 2010 Euroleague Final Four. The two have greatly influenced the progress of their teams this season by helping to guide some players to breakout campaigns and by giving their charges the confidence to beat other contenders on the road to the playoffs. Both also have experienced former Euroleague champs on the roster to help focus their younger guns. Working in Maccabi's favor is its collective experience of a club that has reached that seven Final Fours in the last decade, while Partizan aims for its first such appearance in 12 years.

Stephane Lasme - Maccabi Electra
On any great team known for offensive firepower, at least one great defender usually lights sparks at one end of the court that result in scoring fun at the other end. One player who relishes that role on Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv is undersized big man Stephane Lasme, who ranked second in blocked shots during the Top 16. Now, in the Quarterfinal Playoffs, Lasme and Maccabi face his former team, Partizan Belgrade, for a spot in the 2010 Final Four "I think that Partizan and Maccabi have the best fans in Europe," Lasme said.

Dusan Kecman - Partizan
The only defending Euroleague champion left in the competition and heading into the playoffs is Dusan Kecman, who left Panathinaikos to return to Partizan Belgrade last summer. As he now leads Partizan into the playoffs against Maccabi Electra, Kecman knows that the Belgrade crowd can be an important sixth man for his team. "Moving to Belgrade Arena for the playoffs is a great chance for all of our fans to come see us and support us," Kecman said. "It will be a great atmosphere that can make the difference."
