Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar center Anthony Randolph missed the start of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague season due to injury, but the club waited patiently for his return. And now that he's back in top form, it's clear why. Randolph earned Top 16 Round 8 MVP honors after dominating with a historic outing on Thursday as Lokomotiv routed Cedevita Zagreb 87-63. Randolph produced 28 points on 9-of-10 two-point shooting in 28 minutes, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished 5 assists to produce a performance index rating of 43, which was not only the highest of any player during the week. It also established a new club record, was the second-highest index rating all season and tied for the fifth-best index in Top 16 history. What's more, the points, rebounds and assists were all highs for Randolph in this, his debut Euroleague season. A pair of familiar faces for CSKA Moscow, backcourt mates Nando De Colo and Milos Teodosic, had the next-best index ratings for Round 8, with 28 and 27, respectively, in their team's 108-98 victory over Khimki Moscow Region. De Colo, the league leader in average index rating (23.4 per game), contributed 19 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. Teodosic made 6 of 9 three-pointers for a season-high 26 points and dished 3 assists in 26 minutes. Dario Saric of Anadolu Efes Istanbul also compiled a performance index rating of 27 in his team's 91-82 loss at Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade. Saric accounted for 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Rounding out the top performances from the week was Luke Harangody, who played a big role in Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul's second Top 16 win, by 78-55 over visiting Unicaja Malaga. The power forward shined with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists for an index rating of 26.
Individual leaders: Tyrese Rice of Khimki Moscow Region, 12 assists
Randolph was not just the Round 8 MVP, but also its top scorer with 28 points, which also vaulted him into the list of top 10 scorers for the season with 14.4 points per game. De Colo remains comfortably ahead of the rest of the league in the race for the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy with 19.1 points per game. Zalgiris Kaunas center Ian Vougioukas tied Randolph atop the weekly rebounding chart with 13 boards. Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz center Ioannis Bourousis and his 9.5 rebounds per game are the most in the Euroleague this season. Tyrese Rice of Khimki climbed to fifth place on the season-long assists charts after dishing out the most of the week, 12. Rice is averaging 6 assists, while Anadolu Efes Istanbul's Thomas Heurtel leads all players with 7.8 per game. Brose Baskets Bamberg's Janis Strelnieks collected 4 steals to lead all players in Round 8. Panathinaikos Athens guard Nick Calathes is averaging 1.9 steals per game, which is the most in the Euroleague this season. Four players shared the weekly top spot in blocked shots with 3: Gustavo Ayon of Real Madrid, Bryant Dunston of Efes, Tyler Honeycutt of Khimki and Ekpe Udoh of Fenerbahce Istanbul. No one has more blocks for the season than Udoh, whose 2.3 per game also rank as one of the top 10 single-season averages in competition history. Of the week’s five double doubles, Rice (16 points, 12 assists) was the lone guard. Randolph, Bourousis (16 points, 11 rebounds), Vougioukas (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Victor Khryapa (10 points, 11 rebounds) of CSKA Moscow complete the list.
