Llull, Fernandez fuel Madrid past Barcelona for 2-1 lead in Spanish finals
Real Madrid overpowered visiting FC Barcelona Lassa 91-74 on Monday in the Spanish League finals to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Sergio Llull had another big game with 21 points and 7 assists and Rudy Fernandez added 18 points to pace Los Blancos. After Barcelona took a 14-15 lead on a Samardo Samuels basket midway through the first quarter, Madrid scored the next 6 points and never trailed again. It was 29-21 after 10 minutes and Felipe Reyes stretched the difference to double figures at the start of the second quarter. The lead reached 15 before a Shane Lawal basket ended the half at 54-41. Justin Doellman scored twice in a 0-6 Barcelona run to open the second half and a pair of Juan Carlos Navarro three-pointers made it 62-56 midway through the third quarter, but that was as close as the visitors would get; Fernandez scored the next 10 points in triggering a 15-0 run from which Barcelona never recovered. Gustavo Ayon added 12 points and Trey Thompkins had 10 for the winners. Ante Tomic led Barcelona with 18 points and Doellman scored 17 in defeat.
