Llull leads Real Madrid to its 33rd Spanish championship
Real Madrid captured its 33rd Spanish League crown on Wednesday by defeating archrival FC Barcelona Lassa 91-84 in Game 4 of the best-of-five finals series. Sergio Llull completed a fantastic series with 21 points and 5 assists to pace the champs. He was named finals MVP after averaging 19 points and 6.5 assists per game in the series. Sergio Rodriguez added 14 points and 6 assists, Trey Thompkins also scored 14 and Felipe Reyes added 11 points for the victors. Ante Tomic scored 5 points in a 0-8 first-quarter run to take a 9-15 advantage and Barcelona raised the lead to 9 before Rudy Fernandez’s first basket ended the opening quarter at 19-26. Stratos Perperoglou further extended the difference as it reached double figures early in the second quarter. Sergio Rodriguez scored twice to spark an 11-0 Madrid run that Fernandez capped with a triple for a 36-34 edge. Tomic pushed the visitors back ahead 45-47 at the break. Barcelona remained ahead midway through the third quarter, however Gustavo Ayon scored the last 5 points on a 12-3 Madrid push that made it 70-63 late in the quarter and 72-65 at its end. Barcelona clawed its way back and Justin Doellman made it 74-73, but Rodriguez answered with a triple. His next three increased the difference to 83-77. Doellman drew the visitors within 3 inside the last minute, but free throws by Fernandez and Llull iced the game and series. Tomic and Tomas Satoransky led Barcelona with 17 points each and Juan Carlos Navarro scored 14 and dished 7 assists in defeat.
