Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv and Joe Alexander are together again after the sides signed a contract for one season with an option for a second on Wednesday. Alexander (2.03 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari of Italy, but previously played for Maccabi during the 2014-15 season. Last season he averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in nine Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games and 11.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in six EuroCup contests.
Alexander spent much of his youth in China, where his father was an executive for an American company. He returned to the United States in high school and played college basketball at West Virginia University. He was a lottery pick for Milwaukee in the 2008 NBA Draft and totaled 67 games over two seasons for Milwaukee and Chicago. Alexander later played for Fort Wayne, Texas and Santa Cruz in the D-League, though a series of injuries caused him to spend much of the time between 2010 and 2014 on the sidelines. He had signed Krasnye Krylya of Russia in the summer of 2011, but was released early in the season due to a knee injury and did not play after that for two years.
"When I heard there might be an option to come back to Maccabi, it was too good to be true," Alexander said. "It's like a dream come true for me. Maccabi is such a great and unique club, with a rich history and amazing fans. I feel much more accustomed to the European style of play and look forward to having a great season."
