FC Barcelona Lassa tapped veteran playmaker Thomas Heurtel to run its offense for the next two seasons, the club announced Tuesday. Heurtel (1.89 meters, 28 years old), arrives from Anadolu Efes Istanbul, where he spent the past two and a half seasons, as one of the top playmakers in EuroLeague history. He is the competition’s all-time leader (minimum two seasons) in assists per game with 5.6 and is sixth on the career charts with 813 assists. Heurtel set the EuroLeague single-season record by dishing 7.9 assists per contest in 2015-16 campaign. He also led the competition in assists in the 2014-15 season (6.4 per game). Last season he posted 12.7 points, 5.6 assists and 1.7 rebounds per contest in Efes uniform, and was chosen as EuroLeague February MVP, while helping Efes reach the playoffs. A veteran of six EuroLeague seasons, Heurtel started his professional career with Pau Orthez in his native France. He also played for fellow French team Strasbourg before moving to Spain where he played one season with Alicante, and three-and a half seasons with Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. He is also a member of the French national team, which he helped win the gold medal at EuroBasket 2013 and bronze medal at the 2014 World Cup.
