One of the best centers in Europe switched Turkish Airlines Euroleague teams on Tuesday when Real Madrid announced the signing of Mirza Begic through the end of the 2012-13 season. Begic (220, 25) arrives from Zalgiris, where he has averaged 9.7 points, 4.8 rebound and a league-best 2.3 blocks in 10 Euroleague regular season games this season. He was one of two players in the Euroleague to block a shot in every game this season. The other is one of his new teammates, D’Or Fischer. Begic has also played for Geoplin Slovan, Triglav Kranj and Union Olimpija in Slovenia, Virtus Bologna in Italy, Zadar in Croatia and Huy Basket in Belgium, as well as being a member of the Slovenian national team. Begic helped Zalgiris to win the Baltic League title last season. He also lifted back-to-back Slovenian League and Slovenian Cup trophies with Olimpija in 2008 and 2009. Begic is now taking his size, intimidation and post skills to a heavy Madrid frontline that also includes Felipe Reyes, Ante Tomic, Jorge Garbajosa, D'or Fischer, Novica Velickovic and Nikola Mirotic.
