Top 16, Week 1 Fantasy Challenge rundown

Fantasy        Challenge Dear Euroleague Basketball Fantasy Challenge fans, welcome to the Top 16! It is another challenge for more than 60,000 teams in Euroleague Basketball Fantasy Challenge, as the regular season came to an end with a winner, Jorge Martinez of Spain, who leads the overall standings with 2,489.4 fantasy points! Don't miss this last deadline: 17:15 CET on Wednesday, one hour before the first Top 16 game. In addition to the 40,000 teams that started the season - double last year's total on opening day - more than 25,000 new teams have been created since. That means that Fantasy Challenge is way more popular than in any previous edition. Remember that you can register all season long for Fantasy Challenge.  Tau Ceramica

Tau Ceramica: Sergi Vidal is back in action, but Zoran Planinic is still sidelined. Ender Arslan is now eligible and joins the team for the game against Maccabi, helping Pablo Prigioni in the point guard duties.


Maccabi Elite: Everyone in Maccabi is healthy for the big game against Tau Ceramica. Center Nikola Vujcic stays was the top-ranked performer in the Euroleague regular season, with an average index rating of 23.6. He was second in scoring, sixth in rebounds and fifth in assists overall.

 Lottomatica Roma

Lottomatica Roma: Dejan Bodiroga is our of the Top 16 opener - at least - with a broken finger. Roma signed Jon Stefansson, Roberto Chiacig and Roberto Gabini to get ready for the Top 16. David Hawkins has scored 15 points or better in each of the last six Euroleague games.


Pau-Orthez: Pau parted ways with small forward Michael Bauer. His replacement, Melvin Sanders, has scored at least nine points off the bench in each of his four games. Thierry Rupert returned to the team and is ready to face Lottomatica this week.

 CSKA Moscow

CSKA Moscow: David Vanterpool will miss the entire Top 16 due to a back injury and it is not know yet when he will be back on court. CSKA moved fast and inked Oscar Torres for the remainder of the season. Matjaz Smodis is back in action and ready to face DKV Joventut this Wednesday.


Olympiacos: The Reds will be without Ryan Stack, injured in the last practice on Tuesday. Olympiacos has new additions in veteran guard Vrbica Stefanov and forward Sam Hoskins, both of whom will be ready to go. Also, center Sofoklis Schortsianitis has rejoined the team after having missed the last three Euroleague games. Arvydas Macijauskas remains sidelined. Alex Acker is eighth among the Euroleague's top performers, averaging a 17.4 index rating.

 DKV Joventut

DKV Joventut: Joventut has no major injury problems for its game against CSKA in Moscow. Rudy Fernandez ranks 10th in index rating (17.3) is the sixth top scorer in the competition at 16.2 per game. Only Lubos Barton (11.5 ppg.) reaches a double-digit average in scoring, however.


Partizan: Coach Dusan Vujosevic has its entire roster available. Predrag Drobnjak ranks third among Euroleague perfomers with a 20.3 index average. Kosta Perovic is 20th with a 15.6 average index. Both players also made it to the Top 20 in the regular season's rebounders list.


Panathinaikos: Big man Mike Batiste is set to return for the Top 16 opener against Efes fter having missed five consecutive games due to a calf injury. Because Batiste was ineligible due to lack of games, no Panathinaikos player ranked among the best 30 players in index rating, points or rebounds at the end of the regular season.

 Efes Pilsen

Efes Pilsen: Efes decided to let go of Laron Profit this week. Otherwise, Efes has its entire roster available for its road game against Panathinaikos. Even when Marcus Haislip missed a couple of Turkish League games, he should be ready to face the Greens. Antonio Granger is back, too, but not expected to be a major part in his team's rotation after being sidelined for several months.


Winterthur FC Barcelona: Big man Mario Kasun is out for two more weeks with a stress fracture of the fibula. Jordi Trias exploded in the Spanish King's Cup tournament and is expected to see extended playing time from now on. Juan Carlos Navarro stays as the top scorer in the competition (18 ppg.) and ranks 12th in the index rating standings at 17 per game.


Prokom: Prokom may miss center Huseyin Besok in its road game against Barcelona, since he missed the Polish Cup final this weekend. Jeff Nordgaard is also out long-term. Christian Dalmau was Prokom's regular season top scorer - but he ranked 44th overall.

 Dynamo Moscow

Dynamo Moscow: Travis Hansen will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury and forward Miroslav Raicevic is back on the injured list, too. Dynamo already found a replacement for Hansen in Taquan Dean, who inked a deal for the remainder of the season. Lazaros Papadopoulos leads his team in scoring (15.6 ppg.), rebounding (6.8 rpg.), steals (1.6 spg.) and index rating (21.1 per game) with Antonis Fotsis not far behind (14.2 ppg., 6.4 rpg., 1.3 spg., 17.4 index).

 Benetton Treviso

Benetton Treviso: Benetton will keep missing Richie Frahm, sidelined since the start of the season, but Preston Shumpert and Erazem Lorbek are now eligible to play at the start of the Top 16. The team let go of big man Joey Beard. Marcus Goree ranks 19th in the index ranking standings (15.6 per game) while Nikos Zisis is 32nd (14.2).


Unicaja: Unicaja stays is expected to see the return of forward Costas Vasilieidis, although he missed practices due to sickness this week. Pepe Sanchez did the same, but is expected to play the Top 16 opener against Benetton. Marcus Faison joins the team for the Top 16. As many as six players scored in double digits against Partizan in Belgrade, with Pepe Sanchez leading his team with 21.

 Aris TT Bank

Aris TT Bank: Terrell Castle is questionable against Dynamo Moscow after missing a Greek League game due to a sprained ankle. Jeremiah Massey and Mike Wilkinson ranked second (20.4) and 11th (17.1), respectively, in average index rating at the end of the regular season. Alex Scales ranked 22nd in scoring (14 ppg.).
