NGC Cantu added much-needed experience for its Turkish Airlines Euroleague return in 2011-12 by inking veteran shooter Gianluca Basile to a two-year deal on Monday. Basile (1.92 meters, 36 years old) arrives from FC Barcelona Regal, where he played for the last six seasons. He was sidelined last season, however, due to injury. Basile had started the season injured in his left foot, and just when he was about to be ready to be back to the courts, he suffered a new injury to the foot. He averaged 4.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 18 Euroleague games in 2009-10, helping Barcelona to win the title. In his six seasons with Barcelona, Basile has also collected two Spanish League and three Spanish King's Cup trophies. He has also played for Reggio Emilia and Fortitudo Bologna, to which he helped to win two Italian League titles in 2000 and 2005. Basile was a regular member of the Italian national team. He helped Italy to win a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2003 and reach the 2004 Olympic Games final. Basile made 381 three-pointers in Euroleague games last decade, more than any other player, and ranked 10th among scorers with 1,983 points total. His next Euroleague game will mark his 200th of the decade.
