Union Olimpija Ljubljana has fortified its backcourt with a familiar face, Slovenian national team player Aleksandar Capin. The veteran guard has spent the past season-and-a-half with Lithuanian powerhouse Zalgiris Kaunas, which he helped win the Lithuanian League and Cup and the Baltic League titles last season. Capin (1.86 meters, 28 years old) averaged 3.4 points and 1.2 assists in limited action in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague last season and 3.5 points and 1.4 assists in the Lithuanian League. Capin joined Zalgiris midway through the 2009-10 season from Lokomotiv Kuban of Russia. At Kuban, he played for his new head coach at Olimpija, Sasa Filipovski. Capin began his career in the youth ranks at Partizan Belgrade and then spent three seasons with Krka Novo Mesto, for whom he made his Euroleague debut and helped reach the 2003 ULEB Cup final. He has since played for Telekom Bonn of Germany, BCM Gravelines Dunkerque in France, Panellinios and Panionios in Greece, Reggio Calabria and Pallacanestro Varese in Italy, Azovmash Mariupol in Ukraine, Lokomotiv in Russia and Zalgiris. He has also represented Slovenia at EuroBasket 2005 and '07.
