Argentina finished off a perfect first round at FIBA Americas 2011 by downing Panama 90-71 to finish 4-0 in Group B. Pablo Prigioni of Caja Laboral had his best scoring game so far, pouring in 17 points on 5-for-7 three-point shooting, in the victory. Three other former All-Euroleague players – Luis Scola, Andres Nocioni and Manu Ginobili – had 19, 18 and 14 points, respectively. Brazil bounced back from its only defeat to beat Cuba 83-93 and finish second in Group A. Marcelinho Huertas of FC Barcelona Regal had 6 assists in 15 minutes of that game as most of Brazil's big guns rested. The Dominican Republic won Group A. Uruguay snuck into third place in Group B with a solid 79-66 victory over neighboring Paraguay thanks to a huge double-double by Esteban Batista of Anadolu Efes Pilsen, who pulled 16 rebounds and scored 12 points for the winners. The second round of group play starts Monday with all teams playing four games over four days to try to reach the semifinals.
