Attending a game in Kaunas on a cold winter's evening is one of the most evocative experiences in all of basketball. Walking from the cobbled streets of the quaint old town, heading over the pedestrian bridge across the flowing waters of the Neman river, the magnificent Zalgirio Arena looms large on the horizon, glistening black and green in the snow. This is, of course, a basketball-crazy city, with a long and rich history of producing world-class players and highly knowledgeable fans. Kaunas manages to punch well above its weight, and the pride felt by the locals in their tem is perhaps unmatched anywhere. It is also a great place to visit, with the long Liberty Boulevard snaking through the old town all the way to an expansive riverside park, set around castle ruins. For a basketball fan, the challenge is very simple: if you get the chance to go to Kaunas, do it. Win or lose, you won't forget the experience.
