Unics Kazan put its first piece in place for next season's Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds by bringing back veteran head coach Aco Petrovic on a one-year contract on Friday. Petrovic, 52, coached Unics between 2007 and 2009 with great success, reaching the Eurocup Final Eight in 2008 and then winning the Russian Cup in 2009. A native of Serbia, Petrovic has led three teams in his country: FMP, Hemofarm and Crvena Zvezda. He made his debut in the Euroleague in the 2009-10 season with Zalgiris Kaunas of Lithuania, posting a 4-4 record before he left the club. He subsequently coached at FMP again and for BC Azovmash of Ukraine. Unics is the second Russian club of Petrovic's coaching career. He first went to Russia with Lokomotiv Rostov between 2004 and 2007, reaching the FIBA Europe Cup final with the team in 2005. Petrovic also won a World Championships gold medal in 2002 with the Yugoslav national team in Indianapolis, United States.
