Even while he was busy playing a near-perfect game on Thursday, center Gustavo Ayon of Real Madrid managed to find the time to notice a banner in the stands at Wizink Arena in the Spanish capital. It was held up by a bespectacled boy and his family, and it read: "Ayon 14...all the way from Mexico for your jersey."
After Madrid had finished with a 91-78 victory on Thursday over visiting Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv thanks to his 18 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, Ayon had one more assist to give. The two-time Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion decided to go out of his way to reward the show of support he saw from his little countryman.
Ayon approached the stands and handed the boy, whose name he still did not know on the day after the game, the warmup jersey he had used for the game. The gesture moved the boy to tears, but soon enough he was all smiles again while holding his new prized possession up to the cameras.
