Zalgiris renews sharpshooter Milaknis

Fresh off winning the Lithuanian League title, Zalgiris Kaunas announced on Friday that veteran sharpshooter Arturas Milaknis will remain with the team through next season, which will be his 11th with his hometown club. Milaknis (1.95 meters, 32 years old) appeared on all 34 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games played by Zalgiris last season, averaging 7.0 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists in over 23 minutes per game. Only two EuroLeague players -- Ali Muhammed of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul and Shane Larkin of Anadolu Efes Istanbul -- made more three-pointers at a higher rate than Milaknis, who buried 60 of 144 shots from the arc for 41.7% efficiency.

"Zalgiris is already in my blood and I'm really happy to stay here for another year," Milaknis said. "This organization has been growing each year on all accounts, and it's fun to be a part of it. I didn't have to think twice when I received the offer."

Milaknis made his EuroLeague debut with Zalgiris in the 2007-08 season but also played in the 7DAYS EuroCup with Prienai Rudupis in 2012 and UNICS Kazan of Russia in 2015-16. But he always returned to Zalgiris, a club with which he has won eight national leagues. Milaknis this season joined an exclusive club of just 16 EuroLeague players who have made more than 300 three-point shots. He now ranks 14th with 320 for his career.
