Milan, Pianigiani part ways
AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan announced on Tuesday that Simone Pianigiani has been relieved of his duties as head coach after two seasons with the club. Pianigiani, 50, took over Milan's bench before the 2017-18 season, making his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague return after four years away from the competition. Milan had finished in last place the season before his arrival and moved up incrementally over the last two years to finish 12th out of 16 teams at the end of this one, but just one victory behind the last two playoff places with a 14-16 record. Milan won the 2017-18 Italian League title under Pianigiani but bowed out in the playoff semifinals this season, a disappointment for the club. Previous to Milan, Pianigiani had coached in his native Siena, Italy for Mens Sana Basket from 1995 to 2012. He was an assistant coach when the club reached the Final Four for the first time in 2003; then, he took Montepaschi Siena back to Final Fours in 2008 and 2011 as head coach. He won six Italian League titles with Siena. He also coached a season each with Fenerbahce of Turkey and Hapoel Jerusalem of Israel, where he won the league and cup double in the 2016-17 season.
