Zalgiris Kaunas and guard Lukas Lekavicius have reunited with the signing on Monday of a one-year contract with the option for a second season. Lekavicius (1.81 meters, 25 years old) returns to his former club after two seasons with Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. He averaged 4.0 points on 40.5% three-point shooting and 1.3 assists over 33 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season with the Greens. Lekavicius helped Panathinaikos reach the EuroLeague playoffs in both of those seasons. He also won back-to-back Greek League championships and one Greek Cup while in Athens.
The playmaker is a product of the Zalgiris youth system and made his professional debut with the Zalgiris B team as an 18-year old. He played three seasons for the main Zalgiris squad, averaging 8.5 points and 3.5 assists off the bench in 30 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games in the 2016-17 season. He also won three Lithuanian League championships and two Lithuanian Cups with Zalgiris. Lekavicius has been a member of the Lithuanian national team at both the junior and senior levels, winning a silver medal at EuroBasket 2015.
