Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade announced on Sunday that one of its new players for next season, former EuroLeague champion Ognjen Kuzmic, had been seriously hurt in an early-morning car accident. Kuzmic was driving between Banja Luka and Prijedor in Bosnia and Herzegovina when the accident occurred. He suffered "severe injuries to the head and chest," according to the club's statement, and was transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Belgrade.
Kuzmic had recently returned to Zvezda, where he had played the 2016-17 season, after two years with Real Madrid. His first season in the Spanish capital was cut shot after just two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games by injury, but Real went on to win the continental title. Kuzmic had debuted in the EuroLeague with Panathinaikos Athens in the 2015-16, a year after having won the NBA title with the Golden State Warriors.
Euroleague Basketball joins his current club, former teams and many teammates and opponents in wishing Ognjen a full recovery as soon as possible.
