ALBA, Giffey stay together 2 more years

ALBA Berlin will go back into the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague again with forward Niels Giffey, the team's longest-serving player, leading the charge. Giffey (2.00 meters, 28 years old) has played his entire pro career with ALBA in his hometown of Berlin. Last season, when ALBA finished as runner-up in both the 7DAYS EuroCup and the German League, was Giffey's most productive yet. He averaged 10.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists over 21 minutes in 24 EuroCup games, slightly higher than his domestic numbers. Giffey had already made his EuroLeague in the 2014-15 season with ALBA, averaging 4.9 points and 2.3 rebounds as a part-time starter. Giffey had spent four years before turning pro at University of Connecticut, where he won the NCAA title twice, in 2011 and 2014. He has also won the 2016 German Cup with ALBA.

"The fact that I'm going into the season together with most of my teammates from last year means a lot to me," Giffey said. "It's great to keep playing for ALBA in my hometown, Berlin, and I'm really looking forward to the new challenges in the EuroLeague."
