Barcelona lands former All-Euroleague guard Delaney

FC Barcelona has announced the arrival of former All-Euroleague combo guard Malcolm Delaney, who inked a one-year deal with an option for another season with the Spanish powerhouse on Thursday. Delaney (1.91 meters, 30 years old) arrives from Guangdong Southern Tigers, where he averaged 19.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 2.3 steals in 37 Chinese League games last season. He played the previous two seasons for Atlanta of the NBA. The last time Delaney played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague was with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar. He averaged 16.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the competition, led Lokomotiv to its first-ever Final Four -- eliminating Barcelona in the playoffs – and was chosen to the 2015-16 All-Euroleague First Team. Delaney started his professional career with Elan Chalon, which he helped win the French League, French Semaine des As and French Cup in the 2011-12 season. He went on win the Ukrainian League title and reach the EuroCup semifinals with Budivelnik Kiev and was chosen to the 2012-13 All-EuroCup First Team. Next, under current Barcelona coach Svetislav Pesic, Delaney helped FC Bayern Munich win its first German League title since 1955 and made his Euroleague debut in 2013, averaging 13.9 points and 4.5 assists in 24 games. Delaney's arrival will be pivotal for Barcelona in the absence of point guard Thomas Heurtel, who was injured recently and is not expected back in action until early 2020.
