For the first time, all Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup games will be available in Spanish and on-demand. DAZN, the first global streaming service to offer live and on-demand sports broadcasts, presented the new EuroLeague and EuroCup seasons in Madrid. Both competitions will be available in Spain exclusively on the platform for the next three seasons.
This marks the first time that all EuroLeague and EuroCup games will be broadcast live with Spanish commentary. DAZN will also offer weekly summaries of each round, the best plays and exclusive features, some of which are already available in the platform, such as "Pablo Laso, the magician on the white bench", "Juan Carlos Navarro, an unprecedented legacy," and "Final Four, CSKA sat on the throne".
The official presentation took place in the Spanish capital with Euroleague Basketball President and CEO Jordi Bertomeu and representatives of each of the Spanish teams that will compete for the EuroLeague crown this season, Felipe Reyes of Real Madrid, Alex Abrines of FC Barcelona, Jayson Granger of KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and Fernando San Emeterio of Valencia Basket as well as Veronica Diquattro, executive vice president of DAZN, Southern Europe.
"When Veronica Diquattro was in our office and we talked and evaluated joining this innovative project, we thought it resembled the philosophy of the EuroLeague, because we went from a traditional TV model to a new one with streaming. We thought that the opportunities that this offered us would allow us to reach our fans more and better," Bertomeu said. "In a moment where contents and platforms are changing, finding ways for our fans to reach our competition more easily was something that we could not dismiss. Therefore, it was relatively easy to come to understand each other and face the challenge with confidence. We cannot think of a better friend to make this run with us."
DAZN offers a vast catalog of sports competitions and events both live and on-demand. Currently, the main attractions on the platform are MotoGP, the Premier League and Copa Libertadores as well as the best boxing and UFC events and much more. Moreover, a recent agreement with EuroSport allows DAZN subscribers to enjoy all the content from that classic sports channel.
"We are delighted to offer basketball fans in Spain the best basketball in Europe with the EuroLeague and EuroCup. This year we will have more teams and more games than ever and for us this is a challenge but also something that makes us proud because we will offer them all live and in Spanish," Diquattro said. "Over the coming years, we will work to bring the EuroLeague closer to the fans and to attract new followers thanks to our accessible and affordable offer. Our goal is to make more people fall in love with the sport and these competitions in Spain."
The 2019-20 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season will be the biggest ever with 18 teams from 10 countries and a minimum of 322 games. It also figures to be one of the most exciting on record with many teams investing heavily to build deep and highly-competitive teams, which the players are well aware of.
"A lot of clubs got stronger and the playing level is very high," Reyes, the Real captain, said. "It may be one of the most competitive EuroLeague seasons and one of the most difficult in the last few years. At first sight, this is how it looks."
"I believe that DAZN took an exciting EuroLeague, with a lot of teams getting stronger and also a lot of veteran players," San Emeterio added. "We will try to offer the best fight we can. This is a EuroLeague season which we all have to enjoy."
"It will be a difficult, competitive EuroLeague, at the maximum level. Every game is going to be like a final and I believe that people will enjoy it a lot," Granger said. "We have never seen four teams from the same country in the Final Four, but could this be the season? Why not? Of course, there are a lot of strong teams in Europe that got even stronger, but it would be great to have four Spanish teams in the Final Four representing the country. It would be amazing, very complicated to achieve, but we will give our best to be there, and I am sure everyone will do the same."
"It is one of the most open EuroLeague seasons I can think of. It is very difficult to make predictions on which teams will make it to the Final Four or who will win the competition. Like Fernando said, I believe the fans will enjoy it a lot," Abrines stressed. "After the World Cup success, everything seems to be possible, but why not? It would be big for us and for the Spanish fans to see all four teams achieving something great."
