Turkish Airlines EuroLeague fever was all the rage in Lithuania's second-biggest city on Monday as Zalgiris Kaunas held its official Media Day to usher in the 2018-19 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season, which begins in the first week of October. Basketball conversation never stops in Kaunas, but on Monday, the whole roster of Zalgiris sat down for interviews with local and official media to talk about their aspirations in the EuroLeague this season. There were plenty of duties for head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and team captain Paulius Jankunas as the court at Zalgirio Arena was converted into a photo and video studio full of journalists who wished to know if Zalgiris can challenge for the playoffs for a third consecutive season. Newcomers from as far afield as Mexico and Australia – as in the cases of Alex Perez and Jock Landale, respectively – marked their arrival to a city and country where basketball is a second religion. Zalgirio Arena is sure to be packed once again for the season's first big showdown, when KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz comes to Kaunas on Friday, October 4.
All 18 EuroLeague teams are holding their respective Media Days in the run-up to a historic season that will have more games than ever as 18 teams from nine countries vie over eight months to give fans the best basketball experience possible on the way to the crowning of a continental champion at the Final Four in Cologne, Germany next May!
