Baskonia loses Granger for 6 months

Just 2 minutes into his first official game of the season, point guard Jayson Granger of KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz suffered a torn Achilles tendon that will force him to miss six months of action, the club announced on Saturday. The injury occurred on Friday evening, in the team's Spanish League home opener, which Baskonia won 105-82 against Estudiantes Madrid. Granger was playing defense on the ball when he pulled up with pain. The club's announcement said that tests had confirmed that Granger's rupture of the Achilles was complete and would require surgery. His latest injury is in the same left foot where Granger had ankle bursectomy surgery in January, forcing him to miss three months of action. He averaged 7.2 points on 40.5% three-point shots and 2.4 assists in 12 EuroLeague games last season, his sixth in the competition and second with Baskonia. He had previously played two seasons each in the EuroLeague for Unicaja Malaga and Anadolu Efes Istanbul. He has career averages of 9.2 points and 4.0 assists in EuroLeague play.
